In the meantime, think about this: Why have the teachers in America forced childcare upon us? Why can’t the schools stay open for 8 hours like every other American. Schools could have sports, plays, extra classes, or maybe a big study hall. Childcare costs are hurting so many families in America, and yet our teachers are putting our children last on the rating charts. The unions have cried that the teacher have to spend time preparing for class, checking test so they can’t spend 8 hours at the school. Listen teachers, you can get more productive with automation for planning and correcting test. Plus, you only work 180 days per year and are paid above average salaries to produce the worst results. We pay more per student than any other nation and get the worst results for our money.
In 2026, the national average cost for childcare is approximately $332–$343 per week (~$1,372/month) for center-based care. Let’s just take 30 students and look at the costs for childcare. Using the $332.00 per week times 30 students equal $9960.00 paid per week extra for parents. Why not have a teacher work an extra 3 hours per day for a week that’s 15 hours per week watching 30 students. Let’s pay them $200.00 per hour to void childcare: that would be an extra 3 hours times 5 days or 15 hours times $200.00 equals $3000.00. Now let’s look at the real savings: parents are paying $9960.00 per week for 30 students and the extra hours at $200.00 per hour for teachers would cost $3000.00 for 30 students. That’s a saving of $6960.00 per week for parents. Yes, school taxes might go up to pay for the $3000.00 per week but parents would save $6960.00 per week. Many do not want a tax increase so we could make the parents pay for it. Let’s look at the numbers: $3000 for teachers divided by 30 students equals $100.0 per week but they are paying $332.00 per week for childcare. Every parent could thus save $232.00 per week or $928 per month. Savings are even more if you consider the traveling costs of picking the students up at school and taking them to daycare and then picking them up again from the childcare center. Some parents even have to miss work for this unnecessary travel. Sure, this doesn’t work for every parent, there are young kids that need childcare and those not in school they need childcare, but the savings can be real for many parents. A couple extra hours in study hall wouldn’t hurt either. Let me know what you think.
